This art print is part of a series called Beyond Text. In this series, I re-interpret a quote from a classic book through decorative hand lettering and illustration. By blurring the boundaries between word and image, I mirror how personal and collective stories come together to create a greater cultural narrative about selfhood and our (be)longing to nature.
This quote here is from Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows (1908). I really like the English countryside setting of the book (and I fondly remember pretneding to be one of the side characters for an assignment in elementary school) but I had to search hard for a suitable quote. When I found this one, I knew it was perfect. I paired the text with direct references from the book, willows and a boat in the water.
Recommended size: 12x16 for minimal cropping of original artwork.
